Lego City Undercover is based on the story about policeman, called Chase McCain, Chase has just come back to his own town and realized that a really dangerous criminal - Mad Rex, escaped from prison. It Chase was the one to neutralize Mad Rex and put him into prison long time ago. Situation turns the way, that only McCain can once again catch a dangerous criminal.

Game is based on a well-developed story line but at the same time – open world. Such a mixture is not very common for the games of the genre. But world can be called open with some restrictions, as there are places and buildings at the map, that are unavailable before a player gets certain level.
